Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

ARRIVAL

7:30 a.m. is the earliest students should arrive. Please do not drop off students before this time as there is no supervision available.

Walking and Bicycling

Students (and parents) are encouraged to walk and bicycle to school.  Students riding bikes should lock them up at the bike rack and enter the building through the playground entrance.  Parents are welcomed at the main entrance of the school.

Walking from the parking Lot

Parents who drive to and from school are welcome to park at the parking lot in front or behind the school. It is recommended that kindergarten, first, and second graders be accompanied by a parent or an upper class student (sibling, friend, neighbor, etc.) for safety reasons.

Crossing Guard on Amherst Street

A crossing guard will be stationed in front of the school on Amherst Street for walkers coming from Amherst Street and surrounding streets.

Busses only in Holman Stadium parking lot

In order to provide safe routes to and from Amherst Street School every day, please DO NOT drop children off at school on Sargent Ave.  Please pull in to the car loop.

DISMISSAL

Dismissal process begins at 2:00 p.m. for our kindergarten students and 2:35 for grades 1-5.  A note is required for any change of dismissal other than your student’s daily routine.

 Walking and Bicycling

To reduce traffic in the main office, if you are meeting your child, please do so outside the main doors.

 Automobile Pick-Up

Children being pick-up by automobile will be dismissed by the front door and released to a parent (or other designee by parent notification) only. Students should enter the car from the curb side only.  Kindergarten dismissal will begin at 2 p.m. Grades 1-5 will be dismissed at 2:35.  When you see the Parking Lot Full - Please circle around the parking lot loop.

Please try to plan ahead for rainy or snow days. Your child should know who will be picking him or her up before leaving for school. Thank you.

 No Idling Policy

We ask that you turn off your car while waiting for your child (or waiting to drop-off in the morning). We are trying to eliminate the “Island of Pollution” around the school at arrival and dismissal.

MID-WINTER SAFETY REMINDERS
