Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I am delighted to come aboard as your School Guidance Counselor and be a part of the Broad Street Elementary School.
This will be my seventh year as a School Guidance Counselor. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my Master's degree in School Counseling. I live in Pelham, NH and I have two boys.
As part of the guidance curriculum, it is the duty of the guidance counselor to assist your child in achieving the best possible education. A good education includes learning how to get along with other children, making wise decisions, building confidence, control of emotions, accepting responsibility, building positive relationships, and acquiring awareness of their strengths and capabilities. Many of these skills are already being taught at home. The guidance curriculum will reinforce and support these skills through individual and small group counseling, and classroom lessons. Parent consults can also be arranged.
Guidance lessons are scheduled for Grade 1 to Grade 5. Lessons include team building, co-operation, listening, decision-making, relationship skills, safety lessons, self esteem lessons, conflict resolution, anti-bullying, pre-career, as well as, getting along.
There will also be times when life situations may have an impact on your child's education such as an illness, divorce, or a death in the family. During these family disruptions keep in mind that I can provide a safe place for your child to share their feelings and acquire some coping skills or just simply give some extra TLC. Any information shared will be confidential.
It is important to remember that school personnel and parents working together is a winning combination for our students. All students deserve to be winners. Together, we can help your child reach his/her maximum potential.
If I can be of any support please do not hesitate to contact me at (603) 594-4404 or email me directly at hidalgoe@nashua.edu.
Again welcome, as I am looking forward to the upcoming school year! Making new friends and building new relationships is the foundation of a successful and happy school environment.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Hidalgo, M.Ed
