Mission Statement
Broad Street has approximately 400 students. We have a special needs Pre-School Program for students ages three and four. In addition, our regular education programs are for students in Grade Kindergarten through Grade Five. We have 14 regular classroom programs and students attend art, music, library, computer lab, and physical education class one time each week. Students have access to guidance services, the school nurse, two special education teachers, the reading specialist and paraprofessional support. We have earned the Blue Ribbon Recognition Award for over 6,000 hours of volunteer work contributed by over 370 individuals throughout this past school year.
60% of our professional staff members have been at Broad Street for over ten years and 50% of our teachers have advanced degrees. Broad Street teachers take great pride in their school and their accomplishments. Many teachers have presented district-wide professional development workshops. Teachers have focused on cross grade level instruction and team teaching. They make excellent utilization of technological resources for instruction including networked computers, smartboard, scanners, digital cameras, and microscopes. Teachers have employed innovative methods and a real life approach to teaching mathematics including the Every Day Mathematics Program, calendar, visual math programs, exemplars, and math superstars.
Broad Street Elementary School has a high percentage of student participation in our visual and performing arts programs. In addition, most students participate in reading and writing activities throughout a carefully planned literacy month program. During summer months many Broad Street children join our summer reading program to enhance their literacy skills. Students greatly utilize technology for research, reports, presentations, and writing.
Teachers have worked diligently to utilize authentic assessment models and create academic portfolios for each child. In addition, the school has a wonderful cultural enrichment program provided by the PTO. Our active PTO also plans many family activities throughout the year.
Broad Street School works hard to create and maintain an environment that is welcoming and caring. We hope you will take this opportunity to view our web site and learn about our programs and offerings.
