Frequently Asked Questions
The History of Ledge Street School
Ledge Street School was built in 1957. There were only 14 classrooms and a little over 300 students. Our Gym classes were held in the Cafeteria. We didn’t have a Music or Art rooms (teachers had to come around with carts). There was NO Library, playground, kindergarten or intercoms. There were 35 students to a class. The building’s shape was a 'T' with 2 entrances. Today it is shaped more like an 'I'.
The first addition was put on in 1965. It added six classrooms. Our second addition was approved in 1988 and was finished in 1990. It included a Gym wing, a Library wing and a fifth & sixth grade wing. Two portable classrooms were added. Our school rededication was on Sunday October 21, 1990. Our gymnasium was dedicated to Conrad "Connie" Therrien on June 13th, 1991.

What is the Extended Day Program?
The Nashua School District was awarded a grant to enable six elementary schools to become Extended Day Program Schools: Amherst Street, Dr. Crisp, Fairgrounds, Ledge Street, Mt. Pleasant and Sunset Heights. With the support and collaboration of local community agencies, these schools will provide high-quality, expanded learning opportunities for all students and contribute to the decrease in drug use and violence, while enhancing mental and physical abilities in our youth. Programs run by the Extended Day Program are independent of the Adult Learning Center's Adventure Club. Students enrolled in the Adventure Club are entitled to one tuition-free course during the week. These students must complete a registration form.
