Main Office
The office at Sunset Heights is a very busy place. Every child's safety is of utmost concern to all staff members at Sunset Heights. For this reason, the following guidelines have been provided to you to assist in various issues related to students arriving and departing the school grounds and building:
Absences
Please give us a call as soon as you know your child will be absent. If you are calling after hours, an answering machine is available from 4:00 PM through 8:00 AM. The number is 594-4387. Please leave a message indicating your child's name, teacher and that he/she will be absent.
If we do not hear from you, it is necessary for us to call you. Remember, this is for your child's safety!
Visitors
All visitors/parents are to sign-in on the Visitor's Log in the Main Office and wear a VIP badge when in the building. Please return the badge to the office and sign-out upon completion of your visit.
Students Arriving and Departing School
- Students (walkers and those being dropped off) should arrive between 8:50 and 9:00 AM. Please do not arrive before 8:50 AM (unless students are here for breakfast at 8:50 AM or are part of the Adventure Club's Before School Child Care Program).
- Weather permitting, students may enter their classrooms by the exterior classroom doors at 8:50 AM. Inclement weather and during the winter months, children will enter through the main entrance. The instructional day begins at 9:00 AM.
- As buses enter from Dudley Street, approach the building and stop, they will display orange caution lights. Please be aware. If you need to pass by, do so slowly and carefully. When red flashing lights are displayed, State law prohibits a vehicle from passing a school bus. This holds true for buses on school property as well as buses on city streets.
- All parent drop offs and pick ups by car must be done in the loop. Please do not park in the loop. Also, be courteous to the traffic monitors who volunteer to ensure the safety of all.
- PLEASE DO NOT EXCEED 10 MPH AS YOU APPROACH OR DEPART THE SCHOOL!
- Students riding bicycles must walk their bikes as they approach the school. Please ensure your child is aware of this rule.
- All students, parents and staff need to use the cross walks. Again, this is for the safety of ALL.
- Notify your child's teacher in writing of a change in dismissal procedure, i.e. "my child is not to take the bus home today as I will pick him/her up". This avoids confusion. Note: Parents cannot change their child's bus for the day without notifying the office.
- Dismissal time for walkers is 3:25 PM. Bus dismissal begins following the walker's dismissal. Please try to limit last minute dismissals to emergencies, appointments, etc. If you know of certain days weekly that you need a dismissal, send in a note in order to simplify the procedure from both ends. You may want to set up a designated meeting place with your child(ren) for such dismissals. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding with this issue.
- Parents that pick up their child(ren) in the afternoon, please be advised that PM Kindergarten pick up takes place between 3:05 PM and 3:20 PM. If you arrive in the loop prior to 3:20 PM, please be advised that you will be requested to loop around until all Kindergarten children have been picked up.
Kindergarten Parents - if you arrive after designated drop-off / pick-up times, you will need to accompany your child to the office and sign him/her in tardy. If you are late picking up your child, you will have to sign them out from the office.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and understanding with these issues.
