Guidance
The role of the guidance counselor at Sunset Heights Elementary is to work with parents and teachers to make sure that all children have positive and successful days at school. Part of what a guidance counselor does is make him or herself available to students and/or parents if they need to come and talk about any concerns they have or anything that is bothering them. Together, the guidance counselor, students and/or parents try to work out any problems that may be going on.
The guidance counselor conducts individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons and crisis intervention. He or she is also involved in many other aspects of the school community, with the main goal being to service all of the children in the school.
