Grade 5
Mr. McKnight, Mrs. Roosa, Miss Erickson and Miss Orcutt
Our goal in fifth grade is to provide a safe, positive environment for students to learn. We strive to create an atmosphere that engages children in the learning process, and provide each child the tools to be successful as they move to the middle school level. It's a year that presents a new set of expectations and a new set of challenges. We strive to assist students in reaching their fullest potential on this journey.
Below is a sampling of some of the curriculum we cover during the year:
- Social Studies: First Americans, Exploration and Encounters and up through the Revolutionary War
- Science: Matter, Mixtures and Solutions, Human Body Systems, and Earth, Moon & Sun
- Math: Everyday Mathematics Program
- Language Arts: Scott Foresman Program and Trade Brook reading groups
Overall, fifth graders can expect an average of one hour of homework per night. Towards the end of the year there are some pleasurable activities planned to commemorate the end of elementary school here at Sunset, and their promotion to middle school.
